I have always found it difficult to write about myself because I believe good writing — my best writing — comes only after listening.
I started making comics with my friends in grade school and knew I'd found what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. It was fun to scribble on printer paper, talk about crayons versus colored pencils—all in order to give our voices life. I continued collaborating and creating art, music, and writing stories.
I moved to Portland after high school and found myself surrounded by creative professionals of every stripe. I began designing and illustrating merch and posters for local bands.
After handing one of my zines to a radio producer at a party, I was invited to host a radio show at KBOO community radio. There, I interviewed artists and community activists, finding new ways to use my words to help others reach a wider audience.
I left drizzly Portland and pivoted to windy Chicago where I've expanded into film, interior design, and started a production company, Pencil Body, LLC.
I am currently collaborating on several narrative films and music projects as I continue to freelance in and around Chicago.
Everything I do — radio, visual art, film, writing, music — is just me speaking back after listening. I believe in listening and think we could all do with a bit more of it.
